Botto is a decentralized autonomous AI artist launched in October 2021, initiated by German artist Mario Klingemann together with the software collective ElevenYellow. Its art engine generates thousands of images each week using machine-learning models - VQGAN+CLIP during its Genesis Period, later joined by diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion - while the BottoDAO, a community of thousands of token-holding stewards, votes weekly to select which work is minted and auctioned on SuperRare. The community's votes also train Botto's 'taste model', which steers the direction of its future output. Botto's first auctioned work, Asymmetrical Liberation, sold for roughly $325,000 in October 2021, and the project has since generated more than $5 million in sales.
