Elman Mansimov (b. 1996, Azerbaijan) is a machine-learning researcher who, as a 19-year-old undergraduate at the University of Toronto under Ruslan Salakhutdinov, led the creation of alignDRAW (2015) - widely credited as the first text-to-image generative model, published as 'Generating Images from Captions with Attention' (ICLR 2016). The DALL-E paper by OpenAI later cited Mansimov et al. (2015) as the starting point of modern machine-learning text-to-image synthesis. He earned his PhD at New York University under Kyunghyun Cho and works as a Senior Applied Scientist at Amazon Web Services in New York; in 2023 the original alignDRAW outputs were released with Fellowship as prints and fully on-chain NFTs, sold at Christie's, and in 2024 acquired by the Worcester Art Museum.
