Memo Akten (b. 1975, Istanbul) is a Turkish artist and researcher working with computation, data and artificial intelligence. He co-founded the London studio Marshmallow Laser Feast in 2011, received a PhD in artificial intelligence from Goldsmiths, University of London (2021), and is Associate Professor of New Media and Computational Art at the University of California, San Diego. In 2013 he received the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica for the collaborative work "Forms", and his "Learning to See" series (2017–) became one of his best-known explorations of machine perception and the cognitive biases through which humans and neural networks construct meaning.
