Orkhan Mammadov (b. 1990, Ganja, Azerbaijan) is a new-media artist based in Istanbul who studied computer science in Baku, visual communication in Istanbul, and fine arts and experimental media in Prague. He builds AI and machine-learning systems trained on archives of historical carpet and ornament patterns, using cultural heritage as data for generative installations, videos, and data sculptures. He gained international recognition after representing Azerbaijan at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, and has since shown at venues including Art Dubai and the Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art.
