Refik Anadol (b. 1985, Istanbul) is a media artist and director of Refik Anadol Studio in Los Angeles, and holds an MFA from UCLA's Department of Design Media Arts, where he also teaches. A pioneer in the aesthetics of machine intelligence, he treats data as raw material and neural networks as collaborators, producing AI 'data paintings', data sculptures, and immersive installations. His installation 'Unsupervised', trained on the public data of MoMA's collection, was exhibited at the museum in 2022-2023 and acquired into its permanent collection. He is also co-founder of Dataland, a museum of AI arts at The Grand LA.
