Sougwen Chung is a Chinese-Canadian artist and researcher, widely regarded as a pioneer of human-machine collaboration. Since 2015 they have drawn and painted alongside custom robotic systems in the ongoing Drawing Operations Unit (D.O.U.G.) series, begun during a research residency at MIT Media Lab, with later generations trained on neural networks fed by decades of the artist's own drawings and even linked to the artist's EEG biofeedback. Their work MEMORY (D.O.U.G._2, 2017) entered the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2022, and Chung was named to the TIME100 AI list in 2023 and received a TIME100 Impact Award in 2024. Chung founded the London-based experimental studio SCILICET in 2019.
