Trevor Paglen is an American artist, writer and researcher whose practice investigates surveillance, artificial intelligence, computer vision and the politics of seeing. Working across photography, video, sculpture, engineering and investigative research, he examines the often invisible systems through which machines classify, interpret and act upon the world. His projects involving machine vision include the Eigenface series and Image Operations, which expose the visual categories and assumptions embedded in computer-vision systems. Paglen is a MacArthur Fellow and recipient of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, and his work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Fondazione Prada and the Barbican Centre.
